To celebrate National Poinsettia Day, Erin Bruno from McNamara Florist visits FOX59 Indy Now and talks with Ryan and Jillian about festive holiday decor, centerpieces, and, of course, poinsettias.
For over 20 years, National Poinsettia Day has been celebrated annually on December 12th. The first poinsettia was introduced to the United States in the 1920s by Joel Poinsett, who found the plant in Mexico. Erin also shares that while many of us admire red poinsettias during the holiday season, these plants also bloom in white and pink.
Each year, McNamara Florist cultivates a vast collection of poinsettias right here in Fort Wayne, IN. This year, the team grew over 5,000 poinsettias! As an expert in the festive plant, Erin shares a few key tips for caring for poinsettias, including keeping the soil moist and displaying them away from drafty areas.
For those who have heard the common misconception that poinsettias are poisonous, Erin debunks this myth. Although sap on the leaves and stems can cause irritation, the plant as a whole is not as dangerous as many assume.
Aside from poinsettias, Erin discusses some of the best holiday gifts for friends, family, and coworkers, such as gift baskets for corporate giving and centerpieces for hosts. Fresh bouquets in keepsake containers are perfect for friends and family, especially since flowers make people happy.
Visit one of McNamara’s eight locations to pick out something special or order the perfect gift online. McNamara Florist is making deliveries all the way through December 23rd.
